Brody's Dream Come True

Brody's dream came true on Saturday...He got to fly a plane! He always talks about some day owning and flying his own plane. I usually object from the fear of all the accidents that result from small air crafts. But I guess I can't be too overprotective.

He received a card in the mail recently, inviting us to "International Learn to Fly Day". A local airport was offering "Discovery" flights for super cheap. We couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Here he is at the controls. I confess, it was pretty scary at first. You feel every bump and you feel quite vulnerable all the way up in the sky in an itty-bitty plane. The instructor was sitting next to Brody, which was comforting. He actually said Brody did quite well for his first time.

I chilled in the backseat. We were on the ground for this picture so I wasn't scared yet.

Our plane was a total throwback to the 1970's but it was trusty and safe! I'm totally grateful for all the fun things I've been able to experience lately!

Goodbye Rollerskate..Hello Infiniti

So Brody was offered an amazing deal, one that we couldn't pass up, so we had to say goodbye to the precious rollerskate (FJ cruiser) and got this.
Sadly, (i get so angry about this that its hard to blog about it) but 3 days after he got the car he was driving it on the freeway and a portion of a blown out tire came flying and hit the bumper. It hit with such force that it cracked much of it. We were furious because the person's whose tire blew out was nowhere to be found so we have to pay for all of this out of pocket!
Broken bumper and all...
I do not have a picture of it before the accident, but I will take one after it is fixed.

Viva Las Vegas!

Last weekend we made a little getaway to Sin City. I wanted to get out of the awful weather in UT and enjoy some sunshine. It ended up snowing in UT on Friday (the day we left) so I was ecstatic to have missed that. The weather has really been horrible this year. And it still is taking its sweet time warming up.
I decided that I had to take part in history and woke up at 3:30 a.m. to watch the Royal Wedding. I just wanted to see the dress so I just woke up for that part and then tried to go back to bed before leaving for Vegas. I thought she looked very classic and pretty. I enjoyed that the dress was so modest and refined. It makes me want a tiara again! Also, I thought her veil was very similar to mine!
Brody's mom and brother came with us on our adventure. We couldn't find any friends who actually wanted to go with us, and Brody's mom was eager to take a weekend away too, so they became our traveling companions. Julie drove her car so we could save on gas (we still had to pay a fortune in gas because gas prices are even worse in Southern Utah/Vegas)
When we got to Vegas we were happy that it was warm, but it was horribly windy. So much so that it was actually pretty cold. Sadly I didn't get to lay out on this trip.Oh and Brody was very proud of this shirt he purchased and wore for the rest of the night. Surprisingly he had multiple people come up to him and compliment the shirt!

We visited many attractions while there. First, the pawn shop on Pawn Stars on the History Channel. They were filming when we got there so I saw one of the guys on the show. We visited a million casinos, the Bodies exhibit (which was kinda creepy, not my kinda thing), the Titanic exhibit (they had a piece of the ship...this was something much more enjoyable to me), the roller coaster in New York , New York, the Bellagio water fountains and a show at Treasure Island. The Show at Treasure Island was awful to put it lightly. We treked, what seemed like miles, to see this show. We were under the impression that it was for kids, but it ended up being a bunch of super scantily clad girls dancing provokatively on a ship with horrible monologe and songs. It was far from G rated or child appropriate. Hence we will not be watching that again.
Here are all of our pictures from the trip. I was happy to get away, but being back in UT means I have not trips to look forward to, at least not for awhile. Back to work and back to reality. At the M & M factory.

Good News: Employment and Easter

I had a bit of time off after finishing finals. I have been stressfully applying to internships all semester long and not had very much luck. It has been so frustrating to go to interview after interview and not receive calls back or just get turned down because others 'better match their qualifications' I made things difficult for myself by demanding a paid internship (where in my world many places do not pay) I didn't have as many options if I wanted to get paid and those options are very competitive. But anyway through all the stress and disappointments, I can finally say that I received an internship offer and I have accepted! The best part about this job is that, 1) it is in Salt Lake- so no more of that dreaded commute and 2) They will let me work part time while I am in school next year, which I really wanted.
I am excited to begin working (I begin on Tuesday) and especially excited to get paid again. I haven't gone this long without a pay check for many years. I am sick of bumming off of Brody.

And now for more happiness....Easter

This year was such a fun year, except for the inclement weather, I had a great weekend. Brody and I have been discussing getting Easter baskets for each other for quite awhile. I had thought of getting him candy, drinks and other random foods from World Market, just simple things, but things that he loves. Apparently Brody was thinking way above me and def outdid me with presents. I can't stand waiting for surprises and Brody is weak at keeping things from me so we ended up exchanging gifts on Friday.
Brody had told me that he got me something that I would be incredibly impressed with. My mind raced with the thoughts..like a vacation or something else elaborate. But when I found my hidden Easter basket full of presents I definitely was surprised! It was my new phone! I had been bugging B about getting new phones for a long time and Sprint (since we switched) gave us an AMAZING deal, one that couldn't be passed up. Well we both got smart phones. We are so high tech now! I love mine especially and mostly for my apps that calculate calories burned, miles ran and pace. I also have a pedometer. Seriously my life has changed for the better!!

Here are pictures of our loot.

Saturday, we had a relaxing afternoon and then went to celebrate Cambodian New Year with Peng. Rachel couldn't come which was super sad, but it was fun to see him. He had this excellent/terrifying ponytail which he wouldn't let me take a picture of. We enjoyed traditional Cambodian food and Cambodian dance performances.

On Easter Sunday, I sang in the chior at church. I wore my new Easter dress that my mom made for me. It felt good to be in bright colors, but my skin is way to pale for those colors!

After church Brody and I went to his dad's and had Easter dinner and a Easter egg hunt. They filled the eggs with money and let me Karissa, her new bf, Jason and Brody loose to find the eggs. We all about killed eachother while competing to find eggs. I ended up winning because I was the only one who listened to the hints that Paul gave. I didn't feel too guilty for cheating cause everyone else ignored him. I only found one egg compeletely on my own and it ended falling out of my basket, only to reclaimed by Karissa.
Overall it was a great weekend. I was happy to celebrate all the great and special things that come along with this holiday.

Finally Finished the Semester!

I was so happy to finally finish school this semester. This semester had some pretty dificult course work, not to mention my most hated class, Statistics. Wow, was I happy to turn in my 40 some page final project. I got to turn in 4 huge projects in one day (last day of class) and then had a pretty leisurely finals week. I took one final a day until I was able to finish on April 20! I am happily half way through my masters!
I have not checked my grades yet and I am a bit afraid. I am sure that I did well, but not as well as last semester.
I am also delighted to not have to travel to Provo for 4 whole months! No more 1 1/2 hour commutes for me and I won't have to see this for a whole summer.
This is a picture of my 'beloved' express bus that I took every day. I hated it, but it was a thousand times better than the normal bus.
Brody and I shared a Cafe Rio salad to commemorate the end of my semester. Too bad I didn't take a picture to document!
