Summer Really Arrived!

I can't believe that it has been soo sunny and nice here in Provo! Finally nice weather! but sadly I am inside most of the day--Actually, this summer which is the first summer that I've ever worked full time for the entire time, has not been as bad as I thought it would be. I think it is because I get to go on some fun vacations soon and I get to work outside for a bunch of events this summer (and best of all, I actually like the job I have this year)

But since I'm usually inside during the day, I demand to be outside most of the afternoons/evenings. Hence this week's adventure to the outdoor movie in Orem.

We saw this.
It was actually pretty entertaining. The weather was perfect and it was fun to go out! Yay for Brody being done with school! We actually get to go places at night!!

P.S. I got my new shirt in Mesa--love it!

Ultimate Girls Weekend

So last weekend Pam convinced me that a trip to Arizona to see our old roommate Emily was in order. I was a little leery because it is a 10+ hour drive and we would only be there for a day and a half.
We began our journey last Thursday night and drove 5 hours to the southern most town in Utah, Knab. Knab is a quaint little town with the nicest gas station attendants! We pulled in at 1:30 a.m. and wanted to stay in a motel. Most of the places were already closed so we ended up here.

They actually gave us a very large room, a great place to rest our heads for 5 hours. We started out early at 8 a.m. and finished the rest of the drive down to the inferno of Mesa, Arizona.

As usual, I didn't take any pictures from the actual trip, but not because of the lack of a good time. We had the ultimate girls weekend. We shopped, ate yummy food, got pedicures, talked and laid at the pool! It was just what I needed and being with my old roommates was perfect!

While I was gone, Brody sat at home and finished his finals! He is finally DONE with his undergrad!!! I will never have to hear him complain about stats of organization behavior or any other random class at BYU.

On our way home we got to see an exciting sight (which I did take pictures of) Apparently someone started Flagstaff, AZ on fire! It was quite the huge fire. It was the first national disaster that I had been in. I had never seen smoke like this in my life. We could even see the orange flames licking the sky.
The smoke clouds! Everyone was pulled over on the road taking pictures!

Pam with her organic gummy worms. They were actually quite good

showing off my newly acquired tan!

Arizona was quite a different world! I had never experienced heat like that before and it wasn't really that hot for AZ. It was about 105 degrees the whole weekend. My mom said I was lucky that it wasn't 115. The most interesting things I noticed about the heat and AZ were: my eyes were constantly heavy and I was sleepy unless I wore sunglasses, they had mist spraying from the awnings at restaurants and I never got hungry because I was so hot.

I did decide that maybe I liked the heat more than the cold. If I lived there I could be tan alll year round and that sounds like paradise to me!

Congrats Brody!

Today, we went out for a quick lunch to celebrate a recent success. Brody has been studying his little heart out for a bunch of financial certifications. He sells health and life insurance now, but wants to do so much more. He recently took the first step in order to sell securities (he has to pass another before he can actually sell them) I have been so proud of him for all his hard work. He is working, going to school full time and trying to study for all these certifications. He recently passed his Series 6. I told him that if he passed I'd take him to Communal, this little classy restaurant in Provo. I usually refuse to go to these places because they are expensive and I feel too impoverished to be seen in classy establishments such as those. I am also not a huge fan of fancy food, but I'd have to say, I'm getting better at eating things like truffles, cheeses I've never heard of and fine cuts of meat.

So Brody passed his test and I was then obligated to take him out. It was fun to meet up for lunch (we never do that). We felt like we were Brody and Kristin on the Hills, meeting up at an expensive restaurant just to talk about meaningless things (I am now obsessed with drawing life parallels to our celebrity twin couple)

We are just the opposite-me brunette, Brody blonde

So I enjoyed Communal. The prices weren't as bad as I expected and I loved their fries. Brody got some gourmet sounding burger and fries and I opted for the safe option, soup. The soup of the day was a spicy chili. I enjoyed it, but it probably wasn't the best for a warm June afternoon.

My chili-the bread had some unidentified flavor which I didn't love, but the chili was quite tasty!

The 'happy' boy of the hour- He honestly refuses to smile in a picture!

The only thing I didn't like about the restaurant was that as the name denotes, they have communal seating. They sit you at a long table, where other people you don't know can sit next to you. That may have given me anxiety but the restaurant wasn't full. We sat in the middle of the long table with two couples flanking the ends. The table was quite wide so I felt unnaturally far away from Brody. But overall it was quite an enjoyable lunch to celebrate Brody and his great genius :)

A weekend of Bs!

So summer finally arrived and wow it is not kidding around. It's been in the 90s this weekend. We went from snow last week to 90s this week. Oh the joys of Utah weather. Well there is one thing that I for sure am not complaining out and that is the sunshine!! This year I am trying to not be obsessed with my tan, but I got to lay out on Friday and well I'm trying to suppress the feverish feelings and desires to lay out ever second ever since..sadly I have work and church and other things that keep me from sitting at a pool every second of the time.

Friday, I got to leave work early so I decided to go to the pool with my dear pool mate, Pamela. It was my first time laying out this summer and I did get red! (no burn though so that was perfect)
After wards, Pam and I went on a seriously long walk to a new yogurt/custard place. Of course, only Pam would drag you on a 2 hr walk on a hot summer afternoon. But I still enjoyed it, cause it entailed 3 of my favorite things, sunshine, exercise and ice cream!

My fun Friday ended with Brody making chocolate covered bacon. Yes you heard that right, he loves bacon and decided that he should cover it with chocolate. Apparently, bacon recipes are all the rage now and I guess we can finally say we tried it with chocolate!

Documenting the second time he's cooked in the kitchen.

He is just so talented!

We had some friends over and had a BBQ. Complete with pineapple, chicken quesadillas, brauts, grilled pineapple (which was later made into a candle) and many other snacks.

Some evidence that I got tan or red that day!

Oh and the bacon, well it wasn't gross, but it wasn't very good either. Brody still did a good job.

Brody then continued to amaze us with his cooking skills when he carved the pineapple to make a cute candle holder thing.

On Saturday we drove up to Salt Lake to in part look for apartments (which I won't talk about, it wasn't very successful) and also to go to a Bees game with Brody's good friend Blair and fiance.

With our big sunglasses
After the game, we got to go down to the field and watch fireworks! I love fireworks and it was an awesome show! Thank you Salt Lake Bees for a fun night!

All I did was eat...

I spent Memorial Day weekend eating. I guess that's what you do on all holidays, but it kinda threw me off of my once-a-week cheat diet. I did take some pictures to document my eating fun.

I was horribly depressed that it was a cold weekend with no sun and we couldn't go out of town so I drowned out my sorrows with food. K I didn't eat that much.

My humongous ice cream that i love! (I didn't finish it for the record)

yumm...

On Sunday, our fabulous friend Peng had us over for a bbq. He cooked enough food to feed an army, unfortunately there were about 8 people there. I did learn to make authentic Cambodian egg rolls and got to try lots of spicy food and good company!

Peng cooking!

The whole group!

with Brody and one of his many hideous shirts! (don't ask)

And I didn't take any pictures on Monday from the actual Memorial Day picnic. :(

10 months!

I missed our anniversary again! When we got married, I wanted to celebrate every month that we have been married, but Brody did not like that idea. I always think- "i'm going to celebrate anyway-even if my husband is unromantic and hates celebrating our marriage" But somehow I always forget. I missed our 10 monther yesterday :(

We did have a fun Memorial Day picnic (so I guess I was celebrating without knowing) I do have some pictures of our weekend...but none of our picnic.

Brody promises to celebrate our year anniversary in July! Can't believe it has been that long!
Here's to 10 months!
